The Luxembourg National Data Service (LNDS) is an established and financed organization by the Luxembourgish government in November 2022. Our mission is to facilitate and promote the generation of value from public sector data in Luxembourg (and support at the Europe level), aligning with the government's vision to position the country as a leader in the data economy. 

 

Collaborating closely with public stakeholders and industry partners, we create data spaces to enable efficient and responsible data reuse, playing a vital role in establishing a thriving research and innovation ecosystem. As a provider of services, we support the sharing and reutilization of data for both public and private data partners. 

 

Additionally, we are committed to becoming a key contributor to the European Data Spaces, outlined in the European Commission's data strategy. By harnessing the potential of data, we aim to accelerate Luxembourg's economic, ecological, and societal transitions in smarter and more sustainable ways.

 

We are fast growing, from 7 initial employees to 35 in December 2023 and 49 in March 2024. We plan to grow up to 60 by the end of year 2024.


As a Senior Software Engineer, you will contribute to the design of applications and integration of new services with the existing data-centric infrastructures. You will be a key actor of continuous improvement and innovation within the organisation, focusing on automating parts of the software development process, internal data flows and internal tooling. You will be part of the Technology and Infrastructure team.

Fixed term contract, 24 months 




What will you do


  • You will develop, deliver, and maintain quality software.
  • You will contribute to application design and integration with existing data-centric infrastructures.
  • You will contribute to continuous improvement and innovation, automating parts of the software development process, internal data flows, and internal tooling.
  • You will collaborate within the agile software development team, delivering and maintaining quality software as required by the Platform.
  • You will actively participate in the entire software lifecycle process, including requirements gathering, user story creation, development, continuous integration (CI), and continuous delivery (CD) pipeline setup, testing, and maintenance.
  • You will develop and implement good software development practices, including consistent coding style, quality, and testing.
  • You will incorporate and promote security and privacy by design practices into your work.
  • You will assist in technical analysis and design of software solutions.
  • You will design and provide excellent issue tracking and customer support with the team.
  • You will write and maintain comprehensive documentation.
  • You will offer technical expertise to external parties and represent LNDS in meetings, conferences, and gatherings with stakeholders.
  • You will support more junior colleagues.
  • You will stay up to date with evolving software technologies.


Required skills and qualifications


●    You have a MSc or PhD degree in a scientific, technological, or engineering discipline related to computer science, information technology, or computing.

●   You have 3 to 6 years of relevant experience in programming, deployment, and maintenance of applications.


Professional competencies


●   You have working knowledge of security- and privacy-by-design principles.

●   You are creative, solution-oriented with good analytical skills and a mindset for quality.

●    You have excellent verbal and written communication skills with the abilities to clearly articulate the technical needs and to work within an interdisciplinary setting and communicate with external partners.

●    You have an interest in state-of-the-art technologies, DevSecOps, and in an agile environment.

●    You have critical thinking, adaptable, flexible, and able to accept and manage changes in the workplace.

●    You are autonomous, attentive to details, ambitious and curious.

●    You have cultural intelligence and diversity consciousness.

●    Fluency in English

●    Working knowledge of one of Luxembourg’s official languages (French, German, or Luxembourgish) is a plus.


Technical competencies


●    Experience with Python or Java languages. Other languages are considered as a plus.

●    Strong knowledge of multiple technological stacks, covering backend to frontend.

●    Strong working knowledge of containerization (Docker, Podman).

●    Working knowledge of authentication protocols like OIDC, SAML or LDAP/AD, and solutions like Keycloak.

●    Good knowledge of SQL & noSQL technologies.

●    Good knowledge of cloud ecosystems.

●    Comfortable working on Linux and git environments daily.
