The Luxembourg National Data Service (LNDS) is an established and financed organization by the Luxembourgish government in November 2022. Our mission is to facilitate and promote the generation of value from public sector data in Luxembourg (and support at the Europe level), aligning with the government's vision to position the country as a leader in the data economy. 

 

Collaborating closely with public stakeholders and industry partners, we create data spaces to enable efficient and responsible data reuse, playing a vital role in establishing a thriving research and innovation ecosystem. As a provider of services, we support the sharing and reutilization of data for both public and private data partners. 

 

Additionally, we are committed to becoming a key contributor to the European Data Spaces, outlined in the European Commission's data strategy. By harnessing the potential of data, we aim to accelerate Luxembourg's economic, ecological, and societal transitions in smarter and more sustainable ways.

 

We are fast growing, from 7 initial employees to 35 in December 2023 and 49 in March 2024. We plan to grow up to 60 by the end of year 2024.


As a Senior IT Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining the system architecture and infrastructure of the organization. You will work closely with the technology team to deliver high-quality services to the organization’s end users. In addition, you will monitor and report on performance quality metrics and support internal and external stakeholders in resolving issues.

What you will do 


  • Design, implement, and maintain systems and infrastructure of the organization with state-of-the-art industry standards.
  • Ensure Information Technology (IT) services are available, scalable, and secure by applying constant compliance standards on the systems.
  • Use appropriate tools and methods to troubleshoot and resolve system issues and performance problems.
  • Collaborate with other teams and stakeholders to achieve system reliability, and security, following best practices and policies.
  • Document system specifications, configurations and procedures clearly and consistently.
  • Research and evaluate new technologies and tools to improve system efficiency and functionality.
  • Oversee the various tools that the organization utilizes and support the team and external stakeholders with any problems they may encounter.
  • Responsible for conducting regular tests, troubleshooting issues, and implementing recovery plans when needed.
  • Represent LNDS in various meetings, conferences, and gatherings with the respective stakeholders.


Who you are


  • You have a BSc, or MSc in a scientific, technological, or engineering discipline related to computer science, information technology, or computing.
  • You have 6 to 10 years of relevant experience with programming, deployment, and maintenance of web applications, as well as Linux systems and web servers' administration.
  • You have experience with system administration Linux (RHEL/Ubuntu) and Windows machines.
  • You have working knowledge in shell/bash.
  • You have experience with provisioning ecosystems (e.g. Ansible, Foreman).
  • You have experience with configuration management tools (e.g. Salt, Puppet).
  • You have experience in cloud computing, microservices, containerization, DevOps, CI/CD, etc.
  • You have experience with containerization (e.g. Docker, Podman).
  • You have experience with systems monitoring tooling (e.g. Zabbix, Icinga, ELK).
  • You have knowledge of git vcs, git platforms and IAAS tooling (e.g. Terraform).
  • You have excellent problem-solving, analytical and communication skills.
  • You are able to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • You have working knowledge of authentication protocols like OpenID Connect, SAML or LDAP/AD, and solutions like Keycloak.
  • You have excellent verbal and written communication skills with the abilities to well articulate technical needs and work within an interdisciplinary setting and communicate with external partners.
  • You are creative, and solution-oriented with good analytical skills and a mindset for quality.
  • You have critical thinking, you are adaptable and flexible and you can accept and manage changes in the workplace.
  • You have cultural intelligence and diversity consciousness.
  • You have excellent communication skills in English.
  • Working knowledge of one of Luxembourg’s official languages (French, German, or Luxembourgish) is a plus.
